Largs Viking Festival Programme 2013
Saturday 31st August to Sunday 8th September
DRAFT PROGRAMME, ALL EVENTS SUBJECT TO CONFIRMATION
EVERY DAY EVENTS
We hope to have TWO villages this year to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Largs. The Viking and Scots Villages will open every day from 11am to 5pm. Please note the Village will close from 1.30 to 2.30 p.m. on 31st August to enable the re-enactors to participate in the opening parade and at 4.30pm on Saturday 7th September for the Party at the Pencil.
Come and see how the Vikings and Scots lived in authentic villages - talk to them about their way of life; learn about how they made their clothes, weapons, jewellery and food. Ask the Vikings about their religion, beliefs, homes, crafts, ships, their homeland and why they left it. This year the re-enactment group Swords of Dalriada will be in the Scots Village with King Alexander and the Glasgow Vikings in the Viking Village with King Hakon and taking part in the other Viking events in town. Also in the Village will be Scots and Viking traders. The entry fee gives admission to BOTH VILLAGES and costs £5 for Adults and £2 for Children/Concessions (over 60s and students).Under 5s free.
Farmers’ Market and Craft Fayre will also open every day and we hope to have a Continental Market from Saturday 31st August to Wednesday 4th and an Italian Market from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th. Markets operate from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. every day. Come and sample foods from Europe and beyond.
Owl Magic will be with us every day, weather permitting, and is an opportunity to see, touch and get photographed with a wide variety of these beautiful and inspiring birds. All the owls on show have been hand reared and are used to being handled.

This is an event not to be missed. Admission Free. Voluntary bucket collection for next year’s Festival. Don’t forget to bring a torch as some paths to the Pencil are narrow.
