Largs Viking Festival Programme 2012
All Week: Saturday, 1st to Sunday 9th September
Viking Village open from 11am to 5pm. Please note the Village will close at 4.30pm on Saturday 8th September.
Come and see how the Vikings lived - talk to them about their way of life. Learn about how they made their clothes, weapons, jewellery and food. Ask them about their religion, beliefs, homes, crafts, ships, their homeland and why they left it. This year the re-enactment group Swords of Dalriada will be in the Village and taking part in the other Viking events in town. Also in the Village will be Viking traders. Entry costs £3 for Adults and £1Child/Concessions (over 60s and students).Under 5s free.
Saturday, 1st September
10.00 am - 6.00pm: Italian Market and Farmers’ Market with Craft Fayre
10.00 am - 5.00 pm Owl Magic Raptor Display and Kirsty’s Critters
10.00 am – 4.00 pm Viking Car Boot Sale, St Columba’s Scottish Episcopal Church, Aubery Crescent.
1.00pm Largs Round Table Duck Race: Gogo Bridge near Morrison’s, Irvine Road
2.00pm Clann an Drumma band will perform near the Viking Village.
2.00pm Opening parade from Morrisons to the Viking Village on the Esplanade
The Parade will include the principal guests, the Vikings of Swords of Dalriada, Largs BB Pipe Band, vintage vehicles and much, much more
2.30pm Opening Ceremony: The Provost will extend a welcome from North Ayrshire Council.
2.45pm Viking skirmish in Arena next to the Village : Viking combat & weapon display
3.00 pm Aerobatic Display (weather permitting)
3.15pm Cheerleaders routines and workshop for youngsters in the Arena next to the Village.
3.00 pm - 4.30 pm Entertainment on stage including Reely Jiggered.

Friday 7th September

8.00 pm Torch lit procession from the Viking Village to light the beacon at Aubery to summon help against the Vikings.

7.30 – 9.30 pm Party at the Pencil, Pencil Monument, Largs
The explosive climax to this year's Viking Festival organised by North Ayrshire Council. The programme includes around 100 Scottish and Norse warriors re-enacting the 1263 Battle of Largs, burning of a Viking Longship and the sensational firework spectacular. This is an event not to be missed. Don’t forget to bring a torch! Admission Free. Voluntary bucket collection for next year’s Festival. Bring a torch as some paths to the Pencil are constricted. If your dog isn’t used to fireworks, please consider leaving them curled up at home.

FROM FIGHTING TO FRIENDSHIP
The Festival will commemorate the 750th Anniversary of the Battle of Largs in 1263 with many events throughout 2013.
The annual Festival will be held from 31 August to 7 September 2013.
Events are being planned and will be on the website once confirmed
